One of the things we wanted to accomplish was waking up early and watching the sun rise over the east coast. Cadillac Mountain in Acadia is the highest elevation on the eastern seaboard (and it's only 1500 feet). From our campground, it was a 30 minute drive, so we snatched the kids in jammies and loaded cocoa and coffee and took off at 5am. It was a bit chilly up on the mountain, but we huddled in blankets and waited until the sunrise came over the horizon at 5:56am. There is something pretty cool about being the first in the US to see the sun for the day.
And done. We are headed home. At home, the adults grabbed a couple of hours sleep, while the kids stayed awake with a rare treat of cartoons. Needless to say, they stayed up from 5am until bedtime at about 9pm. Oh, and add school and then the beach to the day. To have that kind of energy.......
A much clearer day at Sandy Point Beach in the Park. We even spotted a dolphin or seal or something in the water.
Tanner loves the beach. They all love it, but he, in particular, just thrives. This was a massive hole he dug and promptly put his sister in. Matt has that photo.
A shot of the beach looking up into the Maine forest. Tomorrow, we will be back for Junior Ranger Badges, and then say goodbye to Acadia. Next stop, coast line of Massachusetts and then into Boston. No, dad, we will not be in any big city on September 11th.
