New Hampshire. The calm before the storm.

I was reading about New Hampshire life today, and one description was that it is a place people came to soothe their soul. I can see that now. The streets are narrow and lined with trees that canopy together.  The houses are tall, big and well maintained. Unlike NY, they are historical, but seem to be in very good shape, like owners have the time to upkeep them (and certainly the money). The towns are quaint, traffic is manageable and most of the back roads are empty. Stress doesn't seem to exist.
Typical house here in NH

I love the state motto. Live free or die. It's been the motto since the 1700s when a famous NH General coined the phrase as they fought for our freedom. History is certainly coming alive to us as we travel the east.

One of my favorite routines is riding the parks behind Alex as he takes in the scenery.

Happiest upside down at the playground

The boys dug into their savings to splurge for good boogie boards to last the whole trip.

I like the little house in the middle. What else do you need??

What faithful Vandal fans we are!

Matt said that he isn't ready to leave.

The real reason is our next stop is a bit more fast paced. We are traveling south to Boston. As excited as we are to experience the vast American history we have been diligently studying, we know the busy city awaits. Matt jumped on the RV'ers forum this morning and what he was reading about Boston traffic, tolls and regulations paints a bleak picture.  There are no propane tanks allowed in the tunnels on the main interstate, and there is hefty fines if caught.  We have quite a propane tank in our big mama.  Another forum writer stated that after navigating the crazy traffic, he finally ended his journey in "the fetal position, sucking my thumb".  So, needless to say, our route changed today to go around, way around, all of that.  The good news is that we will end up south of Boston near Plymouth.  We have been studying Plymouth Rock, where the Pilgrims originally landed in America, so we are all excited to see the place where it all began.

All you prayers out there, please send up a prayer for a nice, quiet, uneventful drive today......and mellow, compliant children......yes, that would be a huge bonus.

  1. Can't you typically find Matt curled up in the fetal position sucking his thumb?
