Gulf states to Texas!

We traveled interstate 10 for most of the way across the Gulf states. We had made this trip previously, three years ago, so it was familiar.  It's such beautiful landscape across Alabama , Mississippi and Louisiana. Finally we made it to Houston all in one day. We decided to cross Houston at 10 PM to avoid all traffic. Its one of the big cities that is not fun to travel in an RV in construction on major interstates. We explained what a spaghetti Junction looks like to our kids.

We had thought that we would stop in a small town called Brenham Texas to tour the bluebell ice cream factory. However, after we boondocked there at Walmart one night, we discovered it was closed the next day. Very unusual for the factory. However, the kids were very excited to just be on the road and heading to the granmimi and grandpa's house.

At last, 15 minutes away from the house we had to stop and check out the cactus.

It may seem that all my pictures recently have Elise in them only. The boys have decided to boycott all photos, hiding their faces from me at any cost. Elise however loves to be photographed. Note that she had the same outfit on two days in a row. We are so redneck. I think she slept in it as well.

On to GranMimi and Granpa's house. The kids were thrilled to learn that grandpa I would let them drive his golf cart all over the neighborhood. We parked the RV in a nearby storage area just minutes from the house and the kids make 10 million trips there a day to pick up whatever we need.

We are getting some great driving lessons in.
Granpa's climbing tree.
Alex learns what a flour sifter is from Granmimi.

We headed out for a day trip to Fredericksburg, Texas as well as enchanted rock state park. Fredericksburg is a very cute historical town and they were boasting of an ice skating rink. As we arrived we realized it was the size of a stamp and my kids chose not to join the crowds of children mowing around the small area. We do take some things for granted in Idaho. After an hour of windowshopping, they were ready to go on to enchanted rock where we were to hike this great area.

Santa was even there, with his tent in the background.
Attempting yet another Christmas photo, however note that my boys still don't want to take any serious pictures. I kind a like these anyway.

We took in the annual Marble Falls walkway of lights. It is quite spectacular.

I have to brag a little bit about this wonderful couple. At 87 years young, grandpa still remains a master at a multitude of things. And granmimi is just as quickwitted and wonderful as she ever was. We absolutely adore them and can only hope to have a marriage as strong and beautiful as theirs has been.
